Louis Daoust, the youngest son of Guillaume and Marie-Madeleine Lalonde was born in 1712 in Lachine and baptized at Ste Anne du Bout de l'Ile. After the signing of the Great Peace Treaty of 1701 (that ended the Iroquois skirmishes in the Lake Saint Louis region), Guillaume returned his family to the western end of the island of Montreal. They resided on the land he had purchased in 1685 on Baie d'Urfé. It is safe to presume that Louis's childhood was spent here, doing his share of the farm work.
When he was 21 years of age, Louis married Marie-Marguerite-Renée Miquet, the daughter of Sylvain and Marie Baudry. The ceremony took place at the chapel of Ste Anne du Bout de L'Ile on November 23, 1733. Present were Louis and Marie-Renée's parents, Jean-Baptiste Lalonde, the brother of Marie-Madeleine Lalonde and Captain of the Militia for the area, Guillaume Lalonde, brother of Jean-Baptiste and Marie-Madeleine and uncle to the groom, Guillaume and Charles Daoust, brothers of the groom, Pierre Pilon, brother-in-law of Louis, Jacques Diel, a Master Blacksmith and others. The priest presiding was J. Matis. The marriage contract was signed the previous day, November 22, with the notary C.-C.-J. Porlier.
On January 1, 1734, in the presence of Jean-Baptiste Adhémar dit Saint-Martin, notary, Louis purchased some land in Ste Anne from his brother-in-law, Mathieu Pilon married to his sister, Marie-Josephte. Two years later, on March 6th 1736, he bought another lot, this time from Pierre Pilon, the husband of his sister, Anne. The last piece of land, Louis purchased was on March 21st 1738. He acquired from his brother, Guillaume, the ancestral land on Baie d'Urfé that the later had inherited on the death of their father in 1729.
Louis and Marie-Renée had 10 children of which six survived to adulthood.
