Les historiens s'accordent pour reconnaître que la Sainte Face fut envoyée de Rome aux monastère De Montreuil-en-thiérache en 1249, par Jacques Pantaléon de Troyes, ancien archidiacre de la cathédrale de Laon et futur pape Urbain IV (1260 - 1264). L'icône fut menacée pendant la Révolution. Mais en 1795, l'icône fut remise à la cathédrale. Elle a fait l'objet de récents travaux de restauration en 1988-1990.L'icône est à nouveaux présentée dans la cathédrale, proposée à l'admiration des visiteurs et à la vénération des fidèles comme elle l'avait été avant la Révolution française quand elle était le but d'un pèlerinage réputé.extraits de " Laon Un Acropole à la française"Historians are in agreement that the Holy Face was sent from Rome to the monastery of Montreuil-en-Thiérache in 1249 by Jacques Pantaléon de Troyes, ex archdeacon of the cathedral of Laon and future Pope Urbain IV (1260-1264). The icon was nearly lost during the Revolution but was ultimately returned to the cathedral in 1795. Restauration work was done on it in 1988 - 1990.The icon is once again on display in the cathedral, available for the admiration of visitors and for the veneration of the faithful as it was before the French Revolution when it was the object of a noted pilgrimage.
